If Monolith Productions' Get Medieval seems familiar, that's probably with good reason; the game is consciously modeled after the 1980s arcade game Gauntlet, with its four-player action, its dungeon setting, and its top-down point of view. Even the choice of player characters - barbarian, elf, warrior princess, or sorceress - will ring a familiar bell to Gauntlet fans, of which Jason Hall, Monolith's CEO, is surely one.
The characters' neuroses might be a new twist, however. The elf character for instance, is faster than the barbarian but is burdened by a weaker weapon and low self-esteem. Besides being reminiscent of Gauntlet, this is a game where a premium is placed on humor.
Oh yes... Get Medieval is scheduled to begin hitting retail store shelves today.
It's the first self-published title from Monolith, which created Blood. The company is also readying SHOGO: Mobile Armor Division, Rage of Mages, and Blood 2: The Chosen for release this fall.
