MDK2 Nearly Complete
MDK2 Nearly Complete-April 2024
Apr 22, 2025 1:33 AM

BioWare's MDK2, a third-person action game for the Dreamcast and the PC, was playable on the Dreamcast at Sega's display booth at the Milia trade show. BioWare is best known for its hit PC role-playing game Baldur's Gate, but it has developed action games in the past. MDK2 is the Canadian developer's first game exclusively for the Dreamcast.

The game featured fast action and smooth control reminiscent of first-person shooters. The Dreamcast's analog joystick was used to quickly aim and change direction, while the four buttons on its face were used to run in four directions. The left and right shoulder buttons were used to jump and to shoot respectively, while the digital pad let the game's main character, Kurt, switch to his first-person sniper-view mode. Kurt moved quickly and easily through the game's colorful and detailed environments, and he could execute his signature parachute jump as in the original game. The game's early level design demanded a variety of play tactics, from precision shooting to careful leaps to puzzle solving.

MDK2 will have three playable characters, including Kurt. Its unique character design shows the same sort of cleverness and creativity that made the original MDK popular. MDK2 will be available toward the end of March.
