Now Playing: Deadpool 2 Spoiler Talk & Post-Credits Scene Explained!
When Cable goes back in time to the present, the first people he encounters are two "rednecks" engaged in a spirited debate about whether using toilet paper is actually hygienic (wet wipes are where it's at, one insists). One of those gentlemen is played by Alan Tudyk, who is recognizable despite the mullet and farmer's tan. But the other is played by none other than Matt Damon, who's under so much makeup and prosthetics that even the crew didn't recognize him, according to Ryan Reynolds in the featurette "Deadpool's Lips Are Sealed - Secrets And Easter Eggs."
The Damon cameo was known around the time of Deadpool 2's release, but it's one of those things that's incredible easy to miss. And now, thanks to the movie's home release, we know a lot more about it.
The scene's dialogue was initially envisioned by writer Rhett Reese, who apparently truly believes that people should wipe their butts with wet wipes. "He is a strong believer in the wet wipe," says writer and executive producer Paul Wernick.
When Ryan Reynolds called Matt Damon about the scene, Reynolds says he was surprised that Damon accepted the role. He says no one on set, including the crew, recognized Damon during filming, and notes that he's not even in the credits.
That's technically true, although the credits contain yet another Easter egg for fans of Damon's other work; his character is listed as portrayed by "Dickie Greenleaf," Jude Law's character in the 1999 film The Talented Mr. Ripley, whose identity is eventually stolen by Damon's character.
