Mads Mikkelsen has made a career of usual and out there choices for his roles, but the Danish actor recollected about his audition for the 2005 Tim Story Fantastic Four movie as Reed Richards himself, Mr. Fantastic.

　　In a role that would eventually go to his good friend Ioan Gruffud, Mikkelsen spoke to Vulture about his audition. After he had wrapped the James Bond reboot Casino Royale, his American agent got him every audition he could find for him--whether or not Mads wanted the role or not.

　　"It was like, 'Okay, so you did a Bond film. Now things are happening. Move over there and spend some time and do all the meetings and the chitchat and some auditions,'" he said. "I never had the chance to think about whether it was a film I wanted to be in or not, I just did them all."

　　Mikkelsen still remembers walking out of the audition after he was requested to stretch his arms as long as he could, as Mr. Fantastic would.

　　"Some of the stuff was interesting," he said. "Other things were just like...this is where I felt you can completely lose your confidence as an actor. Standing in an office with a person who looks down at his paper, and you pretend you have long arms and say one line."

　　"I find it rude to ask people to come into a room and say one line while pretending you have 80-foot arms like the rubber man," he continued. "'Grab that cup of coffee over there"...it's like, 'Are you crazy?' There's not even a scene here. It was kind of humiliating."

　　It's also interesting to think of Mads for Reed Richards when Doctor Doom is right there. Obviously, Mikkelsen didn't get the role, but would eventually make his way to Marvel Comics in Doctor Strange as Kaecilius, a fallen follower of the Ancient One.
