The NPD Group has released the composite video game software sales numbers for the month of August. Electronic Arts' Madden NFL 2002, which was released on August 20 for the Sony PlayStation 2, quickly shot up the charts to claim the number one spot for the month. In fact, Madden 2002 for the PS2 was one of four Electronic Arts games to make the top 10 for August. Pokémon Crystal for the Game Boy Color continues to enjoy brisk sales at the number two spot for the month, while Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec, in third place, adds to its totals as the best-selling game for the North American PS2.
