Nintendo's limited-edition Famicom GBA SP will only be available as one of the prizes in an upcoming contest that the company will hold in Japan. Those who purchase a game from a selected list of games and send in the proof of purchase by September 30 will be entered into a drawing to win one of the 1,000 limited-edition GBA SP models. Nine thousand other winners will be awarded T-shirts. As a bonus, contestants who send in proof of having purchased two of the games will receive a special calendar. The games applicable to the campaign are Tales of Phantasia (GBA), Sinyaku Seiken Densetsu (GBA), Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (GC), Tales of Symphonia (GC), Mario Golf Family Tour (GC), and Densetsu no Stafy (GC).
The Famicom was the original Japanese version of what was introduced to the US as the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The color scheme of the limited-edition GBA SP will be based on the original red and white Famicom model, before the console's model change in 1993. The Famicom's 20th anniversary is tomorrow, and Nintendo will stop producing the console in September.
