Negasonic Teenage Warhead isn't a particularly well known character from the X-Men universe, but the sullen-yet-superpowered teen heroine certainly made an impression when she featured in this year's Deadpool, played by Brianna Hildebrand. It has now been revealed that her role in the film was the result of a surprising deal between Fox and Marvel.

　　As reported by The Playlist, Deadpool co-writer Paul Wernick recently attended a screening of the movie in LA, and explained that Negasonic Teenage Warhead was chosen to be in the film purely because of her name (taken from a song by stoner rockers Monster Magnet.) "We were looking down the list of the 400 [X-Men] characters that Fox owns, and NTW jumped out and we were like, 'Yes,' " said Wernick. "'I don’t care what her powers are. She's gonna be in the movie.'"

　　As it happens, Negasonic's powers in the comic books are fairly minimal, so Wernick invented new abilities, more suiting of her name. However, these changes required Marvel's permission, resulting a "swap" between the two studios.

　　"Kurt Russell ['s Ego the Living Planet] in the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie was the character that Fox swapped with Marvel to [change] Negasonic Teenage Warhead's powers," explained Wernick.

　　Russell's role as Ego in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 was revealed in July. The character is what his name suggests--a living planet--but he can also create and assume control of humanoid vessels. Interestingly, Monster Magnet also recorded a song called "Ego the Living Planet" for the same album as "Negasonic Teenage Warhead."

　　In other Deadpool news, this week star Ryan Reynolds commented on the departure of director Tim Miller from the upcoming sequel. "All I can really add is that I'm sad to see him off the film. Tim's brilliant and nobody worked harder on Deadpool than he did," he said, via GQ.

　　However, Reynolds went on to hint at creative tensions behind the scenes of the first movie. "I know when I need to exert control, and I know when I need to let go of it. I'm not gonna go and sit with Tim Miller and say, 'The visual effects of Deadpool need to be done this way.' The man is a visual-effects wizard. But there are character and tone things that I know really well."
