Remedy has broken down what players can expect from the Control: Ultimate Edition on February 2, including details on ray tracing, frame rates, and more.
Thomas Puha, communications director at Remedy, shared numerous details about Control on the beefier consoles on Twitter. Control will feature two gameplay modes: Performance which will let the game run at 60 FPS; and Graphics, which reduces the framerate to 30 FPS but includes new features such as ray tracing. The Xbox Series S will only get the Performance mode.

Now Playing: Control Ultimate Edition - Next-Gen Gameplay Teaser Trailer
This is the typical divide that most games are taking when moving over to the new consoles. When asked about whether the studio might explore a hybrid mode that mixes high framerate with some ray tracing (like Spider-Man: Miles Morales), Puha shot the idea down.
No. Not something our small team can do. We ensured the two modes we do offer are as good as they can be.
— Thomas Puha (@RiotRMD) January 27, 2021
Puha also reiterated that saves from the original Control cannot be moved over to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Control: Ultimate Edition. Puha states that this is down to radical changes the studio has made to the game and the underlying technology, which has just made save-game compatibility impossible.

"The version of our engine in the next-gen Control is way different to the version used in the previous gen Control," Puha writes. "Long story short, lot of changes in things like how we handle data etc."
On PS5, Control: Ultimate Edition will also support a host of the console's exclusives features, including Activities and built-in help support. The game will also make use of the DualSense's unique features, although Puha didn't elaborate on how.
Control: Ultimate Edition is a brand-new version of the 2018 hit that bundles the original game with its two story DLC expansions. It is also the only edition that will give you the option play with the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrades, with previous versions of the game not eligible for the patch. It is included in the February batch of PS Plus titles.
