Earlier this year, Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima announced the first game that will be developed by his new Kojima Productions studio called Death Stranding. Not much is currently known about this game, but today Hideo Kojima himself revealed some small new details.
During Sony pre Tokyo Game Show 2016 press conference, Hideo Kojima took the stage to talk about his vision for Death Stranding, revealing some of the themes that will be prominent in Death Stranding. During his brief speech, Hideo Kojima confirmed that the game will be an open world action game with a certain degree of freedom and some multiplayer elements that connect players in brand new ways outside the current standards of versus and co-op. Additionally, Hideo Kojima confirmed that Death Stranding will support 4K and HDR for the best possible visual experience.
A few months ago, Sony confirmed that Death Stranding is a significant investment from Sony, but at the same time the publisher will not constrain Hideo Kojima and his team.
First of all I’m not a studio guy, I’m a publisher suit. But my perspective on that would be if you try to place too many constraints on a free spirit like that it’s probably not a wise thing to do. But equally, clearly, with something like that there’s a significant investment on the part of Sony, and all of us who make those sort of decisions around that sort of investment are ultimately accountable to Sony shareholders. It’s a balance between allowing the creativity to flourish and recognising that we’re part of a business.
Death Stranding is currently in development for PlayStation 4 and PC. We will keep you updated on the game as soon as more comes in on it, so stay tuned for all the latest news.
