Heart of Darkness is here. Or at least, at retail, since Amazing Studios, Tantrum, and Tantrum's parent company Interplay have announced the release of the action-adventure game for both PC and PlayStation platforms. Infogrames is involved in this deal as well, since Tantrum/Interplay is publishing the game in North America and Infogrames is publishing it in Europe; the two companies are splitting publishing rights for the rest of the planet. Interplay OEM Inc., an Interplay subsidiary, has exclusive worldwide OEM distribution rights.
Not based on the well-known Joseph Conrad novel, Heart of Darkness is the story of a boy named Andy who must rescue his dog Whiskey from the forces of evil by entering a world of magic and overcoming his fear of the dark. Along the way, he climbs, swings, swims, and shoots nasty critters.
"We treated the development of Heart of Darkness like the development of an animated movie from beginning to end," said Frederic Savoir, cofounder of Amazing Studio. The characters in Heart of Darkness are rendered in a 3D animated style perhaps most reminiscent of Toy Story.
