Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 And Suicide Squad Won't Be Delayed-April 2024
Apr 19, 2025 8:11 AM

With there being more and more announcements of upcoming movies having their theatrical releases delayed, director James Gunn has spoken up about to highly-anticipated movies he's working on: Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Recently, Warner Bros. Studios announced Wonder Woman 1984 was getting pushed back from June to August. And with so many other movies also meeting the same fate, fans have been wondering about Gunn's Suicide Squad, which is slated to release on August 6, 2021. Gunn explained on Twitter that there should be no changes in the release.

Right now there’s no reason for #TheSuicideSquad release date to move. We are on or ahead of schedule. We were extremely fortunate to wrap shooting & set up editing from our homes (due to a post production team & studio with foresight) before quarantine. https://t.co/URRFXX58r3

However, don't expect promotional images or a trailer any time soon. According to Gunn, while post-production is being handled from home--and everything is moving along smoothly--there are other factors that have been a bit "slowed." This includes releasing images and trailers for the upcoming movie.

Recently, upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe films had their release dates shifted, but one movie that wasn't included in that list is Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The film does not have a release date yet, and many are speculating it will be sometime in 2022. Regardless, Gunn stated that nothing is changing.

Right now the plans with Vol 3 are also exactly the same as they were before coronavirus. https://t.co/cVHe31gtPQ

Gunn's journey to get this movie made has been a quite a ride. In July 2018, Gunn was fired by Disney after offensive tweets were brought to the company's attention. Eight months later, Gunn was rehired; however, the director had already taken the job of directing Suicide Squad, so he couldn't get underway on the third installment in the franchise. The upcoming movie will be "very different" than previous movies in the series.

In a recent quarantine watch party, Gunn discussed Rocket's origin and future plans for the character, along with what Marvel wanted him to include in his past movies in order to tie in to the larger MCU story.
