I guess we're going to have to earn our money the old-fashioned way like robbing banks. Some GTA Online players were surprised to find that billions of all their dirty money had disappeared from their character's bank accounts.
In an effort to clean up the online economy in GTA Online, Rockstar removed any money was gained through cheats, mods or any other exploitive methods from player's accounts. Rockstar Games addressed the great financial purge on the GTA forums regarding the ill-gotten funds:
Question: Why did I receive an alert when logging into GTA Online saying that illegitimately gained in-game money was removed from my shared bank?
Answer: To keep the gameplay environment fair we have removed illegitimately gained in-game money from player accounts. If you received an alert saying that your shared bank balance was adjusted, that is because you had illegitimate funds in your account.
Question: If my bank account was adjusted, what happens to GTA$ that I purchased via Shark Cards?
Answer: GTA$ purchased via Shark Cards will remain on the account and are not affected by illegitimately gained in-game money removal.
The photo below displays the message the affected players receive when they log into the game. It's no surprise Rockstar Games would start to enforce the law considering that the sale of in-game currency (Shark Cards) bring in a ton of money each month.
Luckily, this won't get you banned from the GTA Online, at least the first time around. Cheaters beware, though, as their characters might be reset after repeated infractions.
GTA Online suspensions are triggered by a number of factors, including modding in GTA Online, exploiting or abusing game mechanics, manipulating protected game data and code, or interfering with other players’ gameplay experience. Suspensions from GTA Online due to these reasons may be temporary suspensions or permanent bans depending on the severity of the infraction. If you receive a temporary suspension from GTA Online, the next infraction will result in a permanent ban. If you are temporarily suspended from GTA Online, you will not be able to access GTA Online from the moment you are suspended. Your suspension expiration date is shown on the splash screen after being returned to Story Mode following an attempt to play GTA Online. In addition, your GTA Online character(s) will be reset. All GTA Online progress, property and inventory will be reset. All GTA Online suspension and banning decisions are final and may not be appealed.
Non-cheaters can get a major payday (only on PC/PS4/XB1), though, in celebration of three years since the game opened.

With its eerie skull-studded design, the Sanctus is a dread-inducing piece of machinery, guaranteed to strike fear into passersby on your next midnight ride. The new Lost vs Damned mode is a classic battle between the forces of good and evil, as hordes of Devils and hosts of Angels battle it out for the right to rule. Complicating the conflict will be a day/night cycle that switches every 60 seconds, with night time benefiting the Devils and day time rewarding the Angels – with increased Armor, Health and superior Weapon loadouts during each team's prime time. Classic GTA Online Halloween vehicles and items will also be returning along with some special Event Week bonuses that we’ll have more info on this coming Friday.
