A small technical hitch delayed posting yesterday, so here's Guy 's take on some games worth thinking about from 2007...
Crackdown
Alongside Call of Duty 4 and Super Mario Galaxy, Crackdown is one of my personal games of the year. However, it really makes you work for some of those achievement points. In between collecting the hundreds of orbs dotted around the world, building your character up in every skill area and playing through the single-player game, it's a title that you can spend a long time 'completing'.
The Darkness
Although the combat in The Darkness was deeply flawed, the game itself had enough maturity and fresh ideas to pull it through. It's by no means up there with Bioshock or Halo 3, but it's one of those titles that offers something completely different, and hardcore gamers and comic book fans will savour everything it has to offer. There are many standout moments where the designers seemingly went off on their own crazy tangents--the alternate World War universe, the main character getting tortured with a power drill, or the achievement points for sitting down with your girlfriend to watch TV.
