GDC Online draws 3,000
GDC Online draws 3,000-April 2024
Apr 22, 2025 5:14 PM

Last week's Game Developers Conference Online covered a sizable swath of topics, from industry trends like stereoscopic 3D and social gaming to developer retrospectives on making Halo: Reach, Fallout: New Vegas, and Blizzard's Battle.net service. The show also featured a "strong" turnout from the development community, with organizers UBM TechWeb today announcing a cumulative attendance of more than 3,000 people over the October 5-8 span.

The show is still dwarfed by its sister event, the annual Game Developers Conference, which this year drew 18,250 attendees to San Francisco. However, the GDC brand has been expanding in recent years, with GDC Europe taking place before Gamescom each August and GDC China floating throughout the year (the 2010 show is set for December 5-7).

Although this was technically the first GDC Online, the Austin, Texas-based show has been around for years. From 2007 through 2009, the event was known as GDC Austin. Prior to that, the show--first held in 2003--was referred to as the Austin Game Conference.
