Forza Motorsport 5 developer Turn 10 has said that it is in the process of adjusting the racer's in-game economy following player feedback.
The game's economy has been criticized for encouraging microtransactions, though creative director Dan Greenawalt said the Xbox One racer features "a skill- and strategy-based economy with rarity provided by in-game price, not locking mechanisms."
Turn 10 will now offer a selection of deals over the Thanksgiving weekend, including 50 percent off every car in the game, whether that's purchased using in-game credits or tokens purchased with real money. This deal will run from 12:01 PT on Friday until 23:59 PT on Sunday.
Forza Motorsport 5 VIP members will also receive the 2013 Lotus E21 grand prix car for free, with Turn 10 saying it might take 24 hours or longer for it to reach players. Players will also need to go to the game's main title screen and then re-enter the game in order to have the car delivered.
Players who already purchased the 2013 Lotus E21 will get a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO instead, and those who have purchased the LaFerrari Car Pack or Forza 5 Car Pass will be gifted the 2013 LaFerrari.
Turn 10 also says it is "dramatically" increasing the credit payouts to members of its Forza Rewards player community in December.
Finally, Turn 10 has apologised for its original (and subsequently false) claim that the Forza Motorsport 5 Limited Edition, which comes with 1250 in-game tokens, would be enough for players to purchase any single car in the game. The developer will now offer Limited Edition owners any of the on-disc cars of their choosing through a page on ForzaMotorsport.net, which will pop-up no later than December 16.
"Looking ahead, we’ll continue to make further adjustments to the Forza Motorsport 5 economy when they’re needed," added Turn 10's Brian Ekberg. "For now, take advantage of all the cool stuff coming your way and, as always, thanks for your patience and for being a member of the Forza Motorsport community."
