Notable Fortnite leaker Ako surprised many of the game's fans on Wednesday when they tweeted that Chapter 4 Season 5, which will start on November 3, will only last a month. Which would make it the shortest season in Fortnite history by a wide margin.
While it may seem shocking at a glance--and it's still unconfirmed, we should note--there have been leaks pointing toward this for months thanks to the many rumors about a collaboration with Lego that will be much more involved than any previous collab that Epic has done in Fortnite. This isn't just a rumor, though--Fortnite x Lego was publicly discussed by Epic and Lego executives at Cannes Lions in June. It's happening.

Now Playing: Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 4 LAST RESORT Gameplay Trailer
Before Season 4 started last week, though, the expectation was that Lego would have its event late in Season 4, a la the Jujutsu Kaisen and Star Wars mini passes at the end of seasons 2 and 3. The original datamined reports about the event indicated exactly that.
But more recent signs pointed to an actual season-level event, including that the Lego update would be Fortnite version 27.00--whole version numbers have always exclusively been used for new seasons. And then when Season 4 began, the in-game signage said it would end on November 3, a full month earlier than expected, essentially confirming then that the Lego collab would get a separate season.
What exactly will be included with the Lego collab? We don't know much, but the one major nugget that we do know sounds like it could be pretty wild: the incorporation of what Epic is calling "digital twin" tech, which supposedly will allow you to somehow import your real-world Lego creations into Fortnite.
But if Fortnite x Lego warrants a full season designation, even if it's a short one, you should expect major changes to Battle Royale, multiple UEFN Creative maps, and some sort of battle pass--likely bigger than the recent mini passes but not as robust as a full normal pass.
And with Chapter 5 still expected in December, it seems reasonable to expect that this Lego deal will have story implications as well, since it will presumably lead to the introduction of a new Battle Royale island.
