Lovers of PC shooters got a new weapon for their arsenals today after Ubisoft shipped Far Cry to stores. Developed by German studio Crytek, the game is rated "M" for Mature and retails for $39.99.

　　Far Cry is one of the year's most anticipated entries in the first-person shooter genre, and much has been made about the game's graphics, which boast over a kilometer of relative draw distance.

　　Story-wise, the game follows a former soldier who wakes up on a tropical island that's been overrun by mercenaries who are guarding genetic labs, which foster even more-deadly enemies. 　　Ironically, the ship announcement was promptly followed by news of Far Cry's first patch. The patch will be released this Thursday, and it will resolve compatibility issues between the US and Canada, as well as repair multiplayer damage issues. Ubisoft will release an online tutorial for Far Cry's Sandbox editor tomorrow, in addition to a quick-save patch in mid-April.
