Fallout fans might want to get comfortable. Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard has said that the company does not plan to announce its next big game for "a while."
"We don't [have a timeframe for our next game announcement]," Howard told RockPaperShotgun. "But I think it's gonna be a while."
Howard said curiosity from fans about what Bethesda might make next comes as no surprise.
"We've gotten fairly used to all the questions and curiosity over the years," Howard said. "Everyone wants information. Right now, we're just trying to figure out which of our ideas are going to stick and finding an appropriate time to talk about it."
The Fallout 4 rumor floodgates truly opened in December, when sources revealed that the still-unannounced game would be set in Boston. Howard "clammed up" when asked about this report, RPS says.
Finally, Howard was more open to discussing his vision for the future of PC gaming, an area where he said he sees great potential for growth.
"PC is resurgent," Howard said. "Skyrim did better than we've ever done on PC by a large, large number. And that's where the mods are. That feeds the game for a long time. And it's exciting that the new consoles [Xbox One and PlayStation 4] are very PC-like. That opens up avenues for us going forward to do things that we've wanted to do in the past. There are kind of random ideas we're working on right now, and it's like, 'Wow, I think there's potential here to do some really cool stuff.'"
The most recent Fallout title was 2010's Fallout: New Vegas, which was developed by Obsidian Entertainment and set in a postapocalyptic Las Vegas.
Its predecessor, Fallout 3, was developed by Bethesda Game Studios and took place in Washington DC and the surrounding area. Bethesda Game Studios, which also developed The Elder Scrolls V: Skryim, moved onto a new project in April 2013.
Bethesda also recently trademarked Starfield and Soulburst, as well as Void Engine, none of which have been officially announced to date.
