ESPN's GameDay Crew Split?
ESPN's GameDay Crew Split?-April 2024
Apr 20, 2025 1:22 AM

Though Kirk Herbstreit and Lee Corso will be continuing their announcing duties in NCAA Football 07, I'm not so certain they'll be together this fall on ESPN's College GameDay broadcast. That's because ABC has announced their college announcing lineups for this year and, according to the news, Herbstreit will be joining Brent Musberger and Bob Davie in the booth for ABC's Saturday night broadcasts.

Certainly, Herbstreit is no stranger to booth work, having been a regular Thursday night color man for ESPN in the past but, with this announcement, it seems like Herbstreit will be moving on from the GameDay crew.

Now, there's the obvious chance that GameDay broadcasts could take place in the same locations as ABC's Saturday night game but that would mean USC would be visited three times in the same season and no SEC schools would garner a visit (thanks to CBS's exclusive broadcast deal with the conference). That just doesn't seem likely.

Another possibility is that Herbstriet would broadcast with the GameDay crew in the mornings and then fly to the evening location to do the Saturday night game but, again, that seems a bit like overkill.

If it turns out that the former Ohio State quarterback is moving on from GameDay it will be a shame--the core unit of Herbstreit, Corso, and Chris Fowler have become familiar faces on Saturday morning.

As an aside, the third voice of NCAA 07, Brad Nessler, will join Paul Maguire and Bob Griese for a number of ESPN college football broadcasts this season.
