EA CEO on next-gen transition difficulties
EA CEO on next-gen transition difficulties-April 2024
Apr 20, 2025 4:56 AM

On a blog post on Electronic Arts' official site, Chief Executive Officer Andrew Wilson acknowledges the problems related to the company's launch line-up on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and outlines the steps it's taking to fix them.

As some of you may well know, Wilson is referring specifically to stability issues with Battlefield 4 and more fundamental design problems with NBA Live 14.

As we've previously reported, DICE is awarding all Battlefield 4 players with a week of double XP and a new weapon, while NBA Live 14 Executive Producer Sean O'Brien has laid out a plan to improve the game as fast as possible.

Wilson added reassurances, promising that Battlefield 4 players will "get open and transparent communication with updates from us around the clock via the Battlefield 4 Control Room."

On the matter of NBA Live 14, he said:

Plain and simple, we haven't gotten the kind of early feedback we had hoped for on this game. I do think we have built a strong foundation, so we're accelerating a number of game updates to address your biggest issues, including improving the way the game teaches the new gameplay controls. We promised to get back to top form with NBA LIVE, and we're committed to delivering on that. We are in this for the long haul.

Wilson's post is at times self-congratulatory, and it's obviously a form of damage control, but his tone is genuine and as he says, transparent. Overall, it seems like a huge improvement over some tone-deaf statements EA made during the SimCity launch debacle, and a direct response to the type of behavior that earned EA the dubious honor of "Worst Company in America."
