EA kicked off the E3 2019 festivities with its EA Play conference on June 8. After the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order gameplay reveal, Respawn introduced the newest playable character, or Legend, for Apex Legends. This tenth playable character is Natalie Paquette, who goes by the name Wattson. She'll debut in the game as part of Season 2 ("Battle Charge") in July, which may also bring some kind of surprise dragon into the mix based on a brief teaser.
Wattson was revealed in an illustrated story trailer narrated by her father, and he explains how proud he is that she has become a scientific genius and electrical engineer. As far as her abilities go, she can control the flow of battle with defensive electrical walls and pylons that negate incoming fire. You can check out the trailer below.

Respawn says that Wattson is a very different character from the rest of the roster in terms of what she's capable of and how she fits into the bigger picture. In her backstory, Wattson and her father actually built the Apex Arena, and she grew up around it. She plays a large role in the Apex Legends lore as the team tries to build out the game's story further.

If you've been out of the loop, Apex Legends is the battle royale FPS from Titanfall developers Respawn Entertainment, published by EA. The Season 2 battle pass was also detailed during EA Play; progression is now centered around completing challenges, not unlike in Fortnite.
There's also a new weapon coming to the game called the L-Star, which is a callback to Titanfall 2--it's a gold-tier gun that can only be found in care package drops. Ammo for the gun can't be scavenged; what it comes with is all you get. Meanwhile, the game's worst gun, the Mozambique, is getting a buff, and Respawn is introducing a new Ranked game mode for those looking to get especially competitive.
