LOS ANGELES--As anticipation mounted for Nintendo to unveil the Wii U at its 2011 Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference today, the publisher offered a few appetizers. One such was Luigi's Mansion 2, which was announced for the 3DS.
The original Luigi's Mansion found an audience on the GameCube. Details on the project were sparse. According to Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, Luigi's Mansion 2 won't be a simple revision of the original Luigi's Mansion, which was released to a positive critical reception as a GameCube launch title in 2001. Fils-Aime also confirmed that Luigi's Mansion 2 will include several new mansions to explore.
Nintendo showed a brief gameplay trailer for Luigi's Mansion 2, one that bore a strong resemblance to the GameCube original. In Ghostbusters fashion, Luigi was shown exploring a haunted mansion, vacuuming up poltergeists, spooks, mummies, and other ghosts. The title also appeared to have the Mario franchise's characteristic charm.
Nintendo did not offer a release date for Luigi's Mansion 2. Check back with GameSpot for more on the title as it is announced.
