id Software cofounder and instrumental designer on seminal shooters Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein 3D John Romero has plans for an "old school" first-person shooter, the developer has revealed. Behind that smile is an idea for a new shooter.
Responding to a Twitter question of "Have you given up on making a good old school FPS?" Romero responded, "Definitely not. I have plans…"
Romero did not elaborate further on the point, but in a later tweet, he confirmed that the new project would not be a sequel to 2000 shooter Daikatana.
"There will be no [Daikatana 2]! he said.
Romero has had a busy career since leaving id Software in 1996. Over the years that followed, the developer held high-level positions at Midway, Slipgate Ironworks, Gazillion Entertainment, Monkeystone Games, and Ion Storm. Romero currently serves as CEO and cofounder of Loot Drop, a San Bruno, California- based developer specializing in social and mobile games.
[CORRECTION] An earlier version of this story reported that Romero worked at Ion Games. GameSpot regrets the error.
