Interplay announced Tuesday what everyone already knew - Volition Inc. is working on the sequel to its well-received Descent FreeSpace: The Great War space combat game, Descent FreeSpace 2.
"Our goal for FreeSpace 2 is to set a new standard in both multiplayer and single-player space-combat sims, encompassing heart-pounding dogfights and spectacular visual effects," stated Mike Kulas, president of Volition, Inc.
The new game will feature new gameplay elements like nebulae, huge juggernauts ten times larger than the original game's Lucifer superdestroyer, 70 different types of ships, a bevy of single-player missions, new beam weapons, and flak cannons for capital ships, plus a host of new multiplayer games and options like Squad War. FreeSpace 2 will also feature a mission editor, and it will support via Parallax Online.
Descent FreeSpace 2 is scheduled for a late 1999 release.
