In a statement, Jordan said, "I'm proud to be a part of building a new universe centered around Black superheroes; our community deserves that. Outlier Society is committed to bringing to life diverse comic book content across all platforms and we are excited to partner with Reggie and Warner Bros on this initial step."
The character Static first appeared in 1993, in a self-titled comic book published by DC imprint Milestone Comics. He's the alter ego of teenager Virgil Ovid Hawkins and possesses the powers of electromagnetic control and generation. Static has appeared in a variety of comics over the years, as well as Static Shock, an animated series which ran for 52 episodes from 2000.

The Static Shock movie is some way off yet, but there are plenty of other DC movies set to be released over the next couple of years. Wonder Woman 1984 is still scheduled to hit theaters on December 25, although director Patty Jenkins recently cast doubt on whether this would happen. Beyond that, upcoming DC films include The Batman, The Suicide Squad, Black Adam, Aquaman 2, and Shazam: Fury of the Gods.
