The new Acclaim, now Acclaim Games and based in Los Angles, today announced that former Shiney founder Dave Perry would lead the efforts to localize a popular Korean massively multiplayer game for Western gamers.
Perry will apply his talents to a "totally brutal massively multiplayer online role-playing game designed specifically for adult gamers," according to Acclaim. The game, titled 2Moons, is based on a popular Korean MMO game called Dekaron. Perry will collaborate with Sunghun Baek, Dekaron's creator.
The new Acclaim, led by CEO Howard Marks, specializes in bringing MMO games from Korea to Western gamers. It bases its revenue model on in-game advertising and microtransactions of in-game items. The company releases its games over the Web and charges nothing for gamers to play.
"There's a clear need for Western designers to get involved if the games end up here, so this is a special situation where the original game creator and I have decided to partner on this challenge," Perry said in a statement.
Commenting on 2Moons' gameplay, Perry added: "2Moons is a game that focuses on training players to become saviors in a world where any hope for survival was virtually nil... Instead of wading through a lot of heavy backstory, the game's narrative is all about the individual's journey as they grow to become a level 100+ warrior."
No release date was specified, although an open beta will soon be ready for gamers to participate in.
