Sony Interactive Studios America, which picked up the rights for the sequel to Simutronics' Cyberstrike late last year, has announced that a multiplayer version of the real-time mech combat game is expected in the spring of this year. Oddly enough, Sony says a single-player version won't be released until the fall. Simutronics is doing the work on Cyberstrike 2 for Sony.
The single-player version will provide 20 missions for each of four Cyberstrike clans, Sony says, while the multiplayer version will allow play by "over 1,000 players simultaneously in multiple combat arenas." Of course, each Cyberstrike 2 "combat environment" will support up to four teams of eight players each, so gamers will really only see 31 other combatants at any one time.
