The Emmy award-winning HBO drama series, Big Little Lies, has a new trailer. While short, only lasting a mere minute, the trailer announces the release date for the series' second season. Big Little Lies will return on June 9.
The trailer alludes to events covered from the series' first season. A surfer questions Jane Chapman (played by Shailene Woodley) before cutting to Bonnie Carlson (played by Zoë Kravitz) mentioning "the lie." The trailer hits familiar beats: anger, melodrama, sensuality, tension, all with satisfying aplomb. You can watch the trailer below.
Big Little Lies, based on Liane Moriarty's 2014 novel of the same name, is a seven-episode series that premiered in February 2017. Initially pegged as a miniseries, HBO renewed Big Little Lies due to its overwhelming success, winning eight of the 16 Emmy awards it was nominated for in 2017.
Big Little Lies stars Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation, The Disaster Artist), Laura Dern (Downsizing, Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Nicole Kidman (Aquaman, Boy Erased), Reese Witherspoon (A Wrinkle in Time, Wild), Shailene Woodley (Divergent, Snowden), and Zoë Kravitz (Mad Max: Fury Road, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse). Maryl Streep (Mary Poppins Returns, The Post) is joining the cast for Season Two.
In addition to Streep, Denis O'Hare (CSI: Miami, Law & Order), Douglas Smith (Ouiji, Terminator Genisys), Martin Donovan (Ant-Man, Lethal Weapon), and Poorna Jagannathan (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Mile 22) will make appearances in either main or recurring roles in Big Little Lies Season Two.
