Media Create's Japanese software sales chart for the week of August 9-15 was notable for its absence of new releases. One week later, and new releases have returned to the sales fore, as Namco Bandai struck gold during the August 16-22 period with Another Century's Episode R.

　　Another Century's Episode R still did pretty well in this century. The From Software-developed mech combat game on the PlayStation 3 easily placed atop Media Create's software sales chart with 219,849 units sold. The week's other debut, Super Dimensional Game Neptune, was also for the PS3 and placed third with 22,574 units sold. Sandwiched between the two was Wii Party, a minigame compilation from ND Cube that has consistently placed near the top of Media Create's chart since its early July release in Japan.

　　Otherwise, a number of usual suspects could be found on the week's top 10 software chart. Nintendo's perennial chart-toppers Super Mario Galaxy 2, Art Academy, and Tomodachi Collection were joined by Capcom's beat-'em-up Sengoku Basara 3, which turned in another solid performance. Other top sellers included Inazuma Eleven 3, Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X, and Hatsune Miku: Project Diva 2.

　　Sony scored success beyond just having the biggest software debuts arrive for its platforms. The PS3 led hardware sales on the week with 29,433 units, just outpacing the PSP's portable-leading performance of 27,554 units sold. The DSi nearly matched the DSi LL's sales on the week--20,030 units to 21,179--while the Wii shifted 18,145 systems. Meanwhile, the Xbox 360 sold just 3,842 systems during the seven-day period.
