Aussie Emulation Mash-Up 30/01/09-April 2024
Apr 19, 2025 5:57 AM

Just like retail releases, January has proved to be a quiet month on the downloadable games front. There are no new games out on the PSN this week--just the downloadable versions of Fight Night Round 3 on PS3 for A$29.95 ($19.34) and Buzz! Master Quiz for PSP for A$49.95.

If you've finished Mirror's Edge and are looking for a challenge, the PS3-exclusive map Synethesia is now available to download for free. The level is a bit of a brain twist, featuring random objects that just float in space waiting to be jumped on as opposed to the traditional city setting of the game. Other DLC to come out this week include an advanced movie editor for Skate 2 (A$9.95), a new Hero Arena mode for The Lord of the Rings: Conquest (free), and God of War stickers and backgrounds for Little Big Planet (A$4.95).

Fingers crossed Activision keeps this trend up--the company has released the Bruce Springsteen track pack for Guitar Hero World Tour for free. The pack includes two songs: Born to Run and My Lucky Day--not bad for a free pack. Rock Band has taken a leaf out of GHWT's book by also focusing on one group this week, with The Grateful Dead honoured with five songs now available to play. You can buy each of the tracks individually for A$2.45 (Cold Rain and Sleep, Doin' That Ray, Fire on the Mountain, Hell in a Bucket and Uncle John's Band) or as a pack for A$12.95.

Mahjong is the latest board game to find its way onto the Xbox Live Arcade platform, in the form of Funtown Mahjong. Featuring a tutorial mode for those unfamiliar with the game, it can be played either alone or with up to four players, both on- and off-line. Funtown Mahjong is out now on XBLA for 800 Microsoft points.

The ever expanding WiiWare Library can add two new games to its ranks this week--Family Glide Hockey and Pop Them, Drop Them Samegame. First up, FGH is a fairly simple air hockey simulator, where you use the Wiimote as the paddle while you hit the puck up and down the table. The second game, despite having such a long title, is rather simple in premise. The aim of the game is to combine a minimum of three falling blocks together to clear them. The more blocks you put together, the bigger your score is. Both Family Glide Hockey and Pop Them, Drop Them Samegame are going for 500 Wii points.
