With the final details of the Nintendo 3DS Australian launch falling into place this week, it wasn't long before big retailers were fighting to outdo each other on price--even from the same parent company! Dick Smith Electronics fired the first shot, slashing the price of the 3DS to $298 (from its Australian RRP of $349.95) and giving away a free copy of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, Rayman 3D, or Raving Rabbids 3D with it. There was a catch though: Stock was listed as being limited to 200 available online. Despite the small allocation, the deal appears to have been extended and is still available.
Big W stuck with Nintendo's recommended retail price but instead offered consumers a choice of either a bonus copy of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars or Rayman 3D. It also threw a starter pack into the mix, which contains headphones, game cases, and 3DS cleaning and protection products.
Kudos must be given where it's deserved, so we've decided to introduce a new points system from this week onward that will reward people for finding that killer bargain. Each week one person will be rewarded a point (the tally to be kept at the bottom of the post) for his or her find, and at the end of each three-month block, we will be able to choose a prize from the GameSpot AU prize box. These include T-shirts, action figures, and all sorts of cool stuff. So without further delay, this week's bargain of the week goes to owza48, who pointed out the Dick Smith 3DS deal. Congratulations!
Remember: To be in the running, you need to post your bargains over in the GameSpot AU bargains thread and the GameSpot AU editorial team will pick the best one each week.
