This week sees the release of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning--a collaborative effort from 38 Studios, Big Huge Games, and EA. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning boasts four different races, three classes, and enough progression trees to keep seasoned role-playing game lumberjacks busy. If the game's pedigree is anything to go by, then fans are in for a treat. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has an all-star team behind it, with R.A. Salvatore crafting the universe, artwork being handled by Todd McFarlane, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion's lead designer--Ken Rolston--filling in the shoes of executive designer.
Next up is The Darkness II, which has undergone a few changes since its last outing in 2007. The most noticeable change has been to the graphics, with developer Digital Extremes turning to cel-shading to give the game a more comic feel. As for the game's plot, protagonist Jackie Estacado has been pulled back to a life of violence and is forced to use his supernatural abilities to stop an ancient organization from stealing his powers. While many people predicted that The Darkness II would be banned Down Under, the game made it through the classification process unscathed.
Now for some bad news, with word coming down from Konami's local distributor--Mindscape Asia Pacific--that the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection has been delayed in Australia. The setback is only minor, with a representative for the company telling GameSpot AU that the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is now slated for a February 13 release.
Other games worthy of a mention this week include Fallout: New Vegas - Ultimate Edition, EA's Grand Slam Tennis 2, and CRUSH3D.
