One of HBO's most acclaimed TV shows, The Sopranos, could live on with a new TV series or movie for HBO Max. WarnerMedia boss Ann Sarnoff told Deadline that the company has been "thrilled" with the Sopranos movie, The Many Saints of Newark, going on to tease that a new Sopranos show or film project might be on the way.
"We're talking to David about a new series, Sopranos related, on HBO Max,” she said.
Chase previously told Deadline that if he were to work on Sopranos again, any project would take place after the events of the film (1960s-70s) and before the events of the original show (1998).
Sarnoff said no decision has been made yet about if a new Sopranos project would be a TV series or a film. She added that The Many Saints of Newark might not have had the most box office success (it made $11.4 million worldwide), but the film helped lift the Sopranos brand up overall. "You can't measure just by the box office," she said.
The Many Saints of Newark is streaming now on HBO Max, alongside the entire catalog of The Sopranos.
