You like to play with toys - admit it. You have little figures stashed in your desk draws and you love walking the aisles at the local toy store searching for cheap toys to decorate everything you own. While some gamers may hide that fact (we at GameSpot sure don't hide our toy obsessions), 3DO embraces its love of toys and, in its upcoming action/strategy game, Army Men - Toys in Space, 3DO proudly goes back to the Army Men toy box for more goodies.
Army Men had its humble beginnings as an anti-strategy game, of sorts. Players don't really need the manual to play; you launch the game, and your goal is to make tan plastic chunks of the enemy. In Toys in Space, the player controls Sarge, the spirited head of the Green Army. The tan enemies led by Plastro have added a new dimension to combining forces with diabolical bug-eyed aliens. Since Sarge can't possibly take on an enemy race on his own, he meets Tina Tomorrow and her Space Troopers during a battle in the front yard and the two decide to take on the tans together.
The new title will feature battlefields like an alien spaceship, a city on an alien planet, the Tan enemy base, a bathroom, and a snow-covered driveway. Up to four players are supported in multiplayer mode, as is the option to enable computer opponents. New weapons are also in the toy box, as well silenced rifles, incendiary grenades, freeze rays, napalm, and heavy paratroopers.
Army Men - Toys in Space for Windows 95/98 is expected to release sometime this fall.
