2AM has released a free beta version of its online real-time WWII infantry combat game, Chain of Command, to gamers on its 2AM Game Club site.
The game, created by combat veterans, hopes to add new challenges to massively multiplayer combat as players join to re-create the 1944 Battle of Normandy. As players become more experienced, they are moved up in rank and given more players to command. And, as with any war, cooperation and communication with troops are essential to winning.
"Chain of Command is unique in the wargame genre," said Mark Granat, 2AM's lead game designer. "In Chain of Command, you'll really feel the stress of the battlefield, and you're guaranteed to sharpen your survival skills. You'll have to take orders from above, and if you're good, you'll be giving orders too. It's time for all wargame players to put away their toys!"
2AM says that it plans to add scenarios, graphics, and other features to the game soon.
