November's NPD software top 10 was dominated by Activision and Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which sold 6 million units across the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 19 days. However, some analysts believe that New Super Mario Bros. Wii, which came in third on the month with 1.39 million units sold, will ultimately surpass Modern Warfare 2's lifetime tally, due to the sustained sales trend seen of many Nintendo titles.
Mario is on cloud nine. As part of its response to NPD's report yesterday, Nintendo confirmed that New Super Mario Bros. Wii has continued to sell well into December. According to the publisher's internal figures, the multiplayer-centric platformer has to date sold more than 2 million units in the US at retail since its November 15 launch.
Nintendo did not provide a global sales figure for the title. However, New Super Mario Bros. Wii has already seen substantial success in Japan, selling 936,734 units from December 3-6, its first four days of availability. According to Famitsu publisher and stat-tracking firm Enterbrain, the game's opening performance is the best for a Wii title in Japan since the console launched in the region in December 2006.
