Ubisoft sets up in Singapore
Ubisoft sets up in Singapore-January 2024
Jan 18, 2025 1:56 AM

Few publishers can boast a development workforce as disparately displaced as that of Ubisoft. Today the Paris-based publisher further expanded its global reach with the announcement of Ubisoft Singapore, the company's 18th internal development studio.

Set to open this summer in the science and tech high-rise business park known as Fusionopolis, Ubisoft Singapore will be headed up by general manager Olivier de Rotalier, previously the director of the publisher's internal studios' cost-control efforts. The studio will be the latest intercontinental feather in Ubisoft's cap, joining development teams in Canada, Spain, China, Romania, and the UK.

A team of Ubisoft veterans will help get the Singapore studio off the ground and train its new recruits, with the ultimate goal of growing the location to a staff of 300. Once the new hires are up to speed, Ubisoft Singapore will work with the publisher's other internal studios on console and handheld games.

As for why the publisher chose Singapore for its latest expansion, Ubisoft said the decision was based on a combination of factors, including a thriving local development industry, strong educational institutions, and the government's "demonstrated willingness to work closely with industry actors and its strong support." Ubisoft has embraced development studios in countries where it can benefit from tax benefits, grants, or lowered cost structures.
