The Last of Us Part I Vulkan Mod Can Improve Performance, Fix Crashing Issues-October 2024
Oct 25, 2024 5:21 PM

The PC port of The Last of Us Part I was among the most anticipated releases of the first few months of 2023, but players' enthusiasm for its launch was soon dampened by the bad state of the port. While Naughty Dog is hard at work on fixing their game, modders have also provided some unofficial fixes that may improve the game on certain system configurations.

The Vulkan Mod, which can be downloaded from Nexus Mods, allows users to run the game in Vulkan instead of DirectX 12. After installing the mod, the game will rebuild shaders, and multiple crashes are likely to occur during the process. Once it is done, however, the game may run with better performance and stability, as reported by multiple users. Unfortunately, the mod only works on NVIDIA GPUs, and DLSS gets disabled, leaving AMD FSR as the only upscaling option.

It is a shame that The Last of Us Part I was released on PC in such a state, as it is an excellent remake, despite the lack of the original game's multiplayer mode, and one of the best ways to experience the tale which was recently adapted into a successful TV show by HBO. You can learn more about the game by checking out Kai's review of the PlayStation 5 release.

The Last of Us Part I is now available on PC and PlayStation 5 worldwide. We will let you know more about official and unofficial fixes for the PC version as soon as possible, so stay tuned for all the latest news.
