The Expanse: Episode 5 – How to Save Khan
The Expanse: Episode 5 – How to Save Khan-November 2024
Nov 25, 2024 7:16 AM

The Expanse: A Telltale Series is a new episodic adventure series from a reformed version of Telltale Games and Deck Nine (the team behind Life is Strange: Before the Storm and True Colors). Like the Telltale series of old this one largely focuses on story and player choice, which also means consequences, including characters dying. That said, with the right choices, you can largely avoid bad results for your team.

Note: The following article includes SPOILERS for The Expanse: A Telltale Series.

The final chapter of The Expanse recently dropped, and as you’d expect, it includes some pretty big life-or-death choices. One of the characters that may live or die is your cantankerous pilot Khan. Depending on the choices you’ve made, saving Khan be fairly tough, requiring certain things to have happened as far back as Episode 1, but don’t worry, we’ve got the roadmap. So, here’s how to keep Khan’s sassy self alive and kicking…

Easy Way to Keep Khan Alive

The easier way to keep Khan alive is to kill Rayen. If you do so, you and Khan will have a tense conversation (having bonded with Khan by giving her a cigar in Episode 2 may be a pre-requisite here). During the conversation I chose “Rayen betrayed his crew” and “I didn’t have a choice” as dialogue options. After this, you and Khan will team up to take on the pirate Tor. Hit all the quick time cues and Khan will survive.

Harder Way to Keep Khan Alive

If you choose not to kill Rayen, saving Khan becomes a little more complex…

Step 1 - You’ll need to calm down the ship’s medic Virgil. First, you’ll need to have earned Virgil’s trust by learning about his past in Episode 3 (here’s our guide on how to do that). If you’ve done that and don’t kill Rayen, you’ll enter into another conversation about Virgil’s past and have to choose certain dialogue options in order to keep him from having a panic attack. When the conversation starts, choose to “Stay With Him,” then choose the “Things are bad, but you’ve been through worse” dialogue option. When he asks what you think he’s afraid of, the response doesn’t actually matter, but you need to assure him “You can go back to being our medic.” Finally, when he asks for forgiveness, select “Not mine to give.” This should calm Virgil down and ensure he’s useful for the rest of the chapter.Step 2 – Now, head to the bridge and you’ll find Khan has already killed Tor for you, but a bunch of pirate reinforcements will show up. In order for Khan to survive this fight, you’ll have to have done the following…Acquired the Laser Crystal in Episode 1 that’s used in the surgery for Khan’s prosthetic arm (here's our guide to doing that).Acquired the cigar in Episode 1 and gave it to Khan in Episode 2 (here's our guide for that).Calmed Virgil down as described above. If you’ve done all this, and correctly hit all the quick time cues during the battle with the pirates, Khan and Camina will come out on top, and then Virgil will tend to Khan’s wounds.

There you go, you’ve saved Khan – not that she’ll be particularly thankful for it. While we’re at it, here’s how you save Rayen during Episode 5.

The Expanse: A Telltale Series is being released on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5. You can check out Wccftech's other The Expanse guides here.
