The CEO of Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2, has heavily refuted the claim that singleplayer experiences are dead.

　　With more and more publishers focusing on Games-as-a-Service and Battle Royale multiplayer experiences, some have claimed that singleplayer games no longer have a future. The success of recent titles such as Sony’s Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War clearly show that this isn’t the case, and during a recent interview with GamesBeat, Take-Two Interactive CEO Straus Zelnick had some words of his own on the matter.

　　“I feel the same way”, Zelnick told GamesBeat when asked about singleplayer experiences being claimed dead by some. “Historically, in entertainment, people take positions like that, but there are also people saying that it won’t work if it’s not a free-to-play battle royale. People really are saying that, and not even tongue-in-cheek. I don’t buy that. Single-player, in my opinion, is not dead, not even close. Companies that feel like they’ll just avoid the hard work of building a story and characters and go right to where the money is in multiplayer, I don’t think that’s going to work. I’d be surprised.”

　　Zelnick isn’t the only one who recently commented on the future of singleplayer experiences – Xbox head Phil Spencer recently said that he intends build high-quality games, including singleplayer titles.
