Times are tough at Microsoft right now, as the company recently slashed over 10,000 jobs from its various divisions, including key staff at Halo Infinite studio 343 Industries. With the future of the iconic Xbox franchise unclear, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer gave an update on 343's future without directly mentioning if the developer was working on new single-player content.
"Every year is critical," Spencer said to IGN. "I don't find this year to be more or less critical. I feel good about our momentum. Obviously, we're going through some adjustments right now that are painful, but I think necessary, but it's really to set us up and the teams for long-term success. Halo will remain critically important to what Xbox is doing, and 343 is critically important to the success of Halo. The heart and soul of Halo is with 343 and the team that's there, and I have the utmost confidence in the team that's there and leading and the plan that they have going forward."

Now Playing: Halo Infinite | Winter Update Overview
A previous report claimed that 343 would be taken off of active development of the Halo franchise, and that new games in the series would be created by third-party studios, but 343 has denied these reports. "Halo and Master Chief are here to stay," studio head Pierre Hintze said. "343 Industries will continue to develop Halo now and in the future, including epic stories, multiplayer, and more of what makes Halo great."
343 has promised "bigger things" for Halo Infinite this year, as the studio looks to focus on more regular content updates and shorter seasons. Beyond Halo, Microsoft is preparing to release a steady stream of games throughout 2023, avoiding 2022's drought of exclusive content.
The recent Xbox Developer Direct provided several updates on this front, including the shadow drop of Hi-Fi Rush and a confirmed release date of May 2 for Arkane's Redfall.
