Pentium 4 Graphics Issues-October 2024
Oct 30, 2024 5:29 AM

It was revealed last week that a significant bug that delayed the launch of the Pentium 4 lingers in the 850 chipset that supports the new processor. According to this CNet report, PCI-based graphics cards installed on Pentium 4 systems may demonstrate very slow performance. While virtually all primary graphics cards now use the AGP standard to connect to a PC system, PCI cards are often used to support additional monitors.

It was previously revealed that 3dfx's Voodoo5 cards will not work with Pentium 4 motherboards, due to an AGP voltage incompatibility. There are no anticipated problems with AGP-based cards from the other major graphics players: ATI, Nvidia, and Matrox. Both Matrox and Nvidia make products capable of supporting two monitors with a single multihead AGP card.
