An Overwatch movie seems like an almost foregone conclusion. The game’s diverse cast of Pixar-like characters are perfectly suited for the big screen, and Blizzard has already released a series of movie-quality Overwatch animated shorts. Despite this, Overwatch publisher Activision Blizzard has never come right out and said they want to do a movie. Until now.

　　In a recent interview with MCV, Activision Blizzard consumer products president Tim Kilpin indicated an Overwatch flick is something the company is interested in.

　　“We would like [an Overwatch movie] very much. These franchises exist across multiple platforms, so it's not just the game as a driver, but it's [movies and TV] as a way to expand the audience and expand the opportunity, and then esports too, because pull all that together and you're talking about franchises that are frankly like no other."

　　Kilpin knows a little something about animation and licensed movies, as he previously worked at both Disney and Mattel. At Disney he was vice president of franchise management for Pixar, Mickey Mouse, and the Disney Princess line, so when he says Overwatch has movie potential, you can probably trust him.

　　Of course, an Overwatch movie is far from confirmed. In the meantime, Kiplin is working to get a live-action Call of Duty movie off the ground…

　　“Anytime you take a franchise as storied as [Call of Duty] and expand it into a new form factor you have to be really careful. So frankly, if the script and the story isn't right we won't do it. It's not one of those situations where someone is saying 'I don't care, just get it made!' that's not what's happening. We do think that if it's done well it has the opportunity to expand the base audience, beyond the traditional foundation that the game appeals to.”

　　Excited about the possibility of Call of Duty and Overwatch movies? I’m not sure if Call of Duty sounds that interesting, but I think Overwatch could be a big, mainstream hit.
