An impressive new Mass Effect Legendary Edition mod has been released, packing manually upscaled and hand-crafted HD textures.
Created by modder and artist 'Catachrism', the LEUITM (Legendary Edition Updated Improved Textures Mod) HD texture pack for the PC version of Mass Effect Legendary Edition is a lore-friendly texture mod that aims to fix various texture-level vanilla bugs, complete with variant options. According to the modder, the texture mod is designed to enhance and complement the modder's Mello lighting overhaul mod from last year. For those not familiar with Mello - this mod restores dynamic lighting to the original Mass Effect (which was lost in the Legendary Edition update).
Now, while we have seen plenty of AI-upscaled texture packs for Mass Effect, this package contains manually upscaled (also via Cupscale) textures, which were then handcrafted and painted. "These textures are not quick and dirty A.I. upscale filters, they are upscaled at stage 1 manually or via Cupscale to remove DXT artifacts, etc... ", the modder writes. "But then they are handcrafted and painted using promotional art references, my personal texture detail libraries, and manual touch-ups, all painted and blended in Photoshop with care to preserve specular channels and normal map details in addition to the diffuse, while adding new details and features ensuring they work in any lighting scenario and have maximum depth."
We're pretty sure that Mass Effect fans that are into modding will appreciate this lore-friendly HD texture pack. Those interested can download it via Nexusmods here. As always with mods, use at your own risk, and be sure to follow the provided installation instructions. Modders might also want to take a look at the unofficial Mass Effect Legendary Edition community patch, which addresses various reported issues.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition is available globally now for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. The enhanced and remastered collection was released in 2021.
