History of Mario Sports Games-September 2024
Sep 22, 2024 3:47 AM

Every so often, we here at the GameSpot offices get into a conversation about games we'd love to see made; titles that just are just begging to be developed and that leave us drooling with fantasies of how that particular game might play. The last time I had a conversation like this, it was regarding Mario Football--a gridiron game that would--in the fine tradition of Mario sports games--feature compelling, addictive gameplay with features unique to that game. Just imagine:

A koopa shell could substitute for the football, one that might all of a sudden sprout wings and fly off in random directions; goombas would make perfect dime-a-dozen beefy offensive linemen; Wario and Waluigi could hatch dozens of dirty plans to cause fumbles and snatch interceptions; the gridiron itself could be 100 yards of awesome traps and devious obstacles; and the compelling story of two quarterbacks from opposite ends of the tracks--Mario and Bowser--would be simply amazing.

Thanks to a line of top quality releases over multiple console generations, the lineup of Mario sports games is awash with great games and fantastic memories. Our most recent feature, The History of Mario Sports Games, takes a look at many of the games from Mario's past, present, and future. Give it a read and let me know where you'd like to see Mario appear next!
