Glass Movie Deleted Scene Turns The Beast Into A God
Glass Movie Deleted Scene Turns The Beast Into A God-October 2024
Oct 22, 2024 6:42 AM

With the arrival of M. Night Shyamalan's Glass on Blu-ray, fans of the story that started with 2000's Unbreakable are being given even more context about the world created by the writer/director. The physical release of the film comes with a slew of special features, including a selection of deleted scenes like the one we're debuting here.

In this scene, as Shyamalan explained, the Beast personality of Kevin Wendell Crumb (James McAvoy) is shown to be perhaps more powerful than anyone would have expected, but in a very different way. "Really, the Beast I saw as an evangelist and his flock are the broken," the director said. "So he doesn't look at the patients as less than. He looks at them as [a] 'Rise up!' kind of a thing. When they seem him, they see a god. They see the version of him that Kevin Wendell Crumb sees, and all of the personalities see. They see a seven-foot creature that's half-man/half-beast, that's bigger than life. They're astonished when they see him. They see his energy."

Now Playing: Glass - Exclusive "Patients Worship The Beast" Film Clip

This particular cut moment is set during the Beast's escape from the hospital, as he encounters a number of the patients who revere him. Instead of attacking them, though, he gives each of them a quiet moment to be near him--something they all seem to crave. "It was meant to show him in his glory, kind of blessing everyone like an evangelist," Shyamalan said.

And it's in the final seconds of this scene that the Beast breaks into almost a laugh of relief. There's nothing insidious of evil about it, really. He's with his people, those that understand and embrace this side of him. While Glass is most likely the end of Shyamalan's superhero trilogy, it's hard to see this side of the Beast character and not wonder what it could have meant for the future of the franchise.

Glass is available on 4K, Blu-Ray, DVD, and digital. In addition to deleted scenes and an alternate opening to the film, the special features include a conversation between Shyamalan and McAvoy, as well as a series of bonus featurettes that are only available on the Blu-ray and 4K versions.
