Gears 5 Is Microsoft’s First Game Available on GeForce NOW; Deathloop, Grounded, Pentiment Coming Next Week-October 2024

Gears 5 is the first Microsoft-published game to be available on NVIDIA's GeForce NOW cloud gaming platform, following the 10-year deal announced a few weeks ago by the two companies.

Gears 5 is available to stream via GeForce NOW starting today, provided you've purchased it through Steam. NVIDIA and Microsoft are still working on adding Microsoft Store support to GFN, which will happen in the next few months.

Meanwhile, more first-party Microsoft games are scheduled to be added next week: Arkane Lyon's Deathloop and Obsidian's Grounded/Pentiment combo.

Gears 5 launched in late 2019 for PC and Xbox consoles to critical acclaim. In Wccftech's review, Dave Aubrey called it the best entry in the third-person shooter franchise.

Gears 5 is excellent, albeit with a major narrative downfall. While the finale of the campaign definitely left a sour taste in my mouth, the game was so good that I want to keep playing the Horde and multiplayer modes just to get more Gears 5. The atmosphere and gameplay in the campaign were different to what I expected, in a good way, and I'm looking forward to where the series goes next and how this narrative finally finishes up in the sequel. Until then, this is the best Gears game in years, with an excellent multiplayer suite to back it up. Practically essential on Xbox One, and a great option for PC owners too.

A new mainline installment in the Gears IP may be unveiled at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase on June 11th, following years of silence from franchise developer The Coalition (though rumors report that its side projects have been canceled to refocus on Gears 6).

This week's GeForce NOW update doesn't just add Gears 5, anyway. GFN users can also look forward to streaming The Outlast Trials (out today via Steam Early Access) and Tin Hearts (released a couple of days ago on Steam).

NVIDIA also announced a new GeForce NOW app update for PC and MacOS. Version 2.0.52 adds promotional tags that can be found on featured games. The tags are curated to highlight the most enticing offers available on the GeForce NOW library (now over 1,600 games). You can expect these promotional tags to showcase new DLC, discounts, free games, and more.

The GeForce NOW app update also introduces in-app search improvements, surround-sound support when using the browser on Windows and macOS, updated in-game button prompts for members using DualShock 4 and DualSense controllers, and more.
