DISCLAIMER: In many particle effects, the particles turn "on" and "off" rapidly, this is the same trick that gets used in certain (mainly old) video games, when the graphics can turn on and off rapidly to achieve a pseudo "transparency" effect. There is no third color at play, the same 2 colors that are allowed are the only ones being used in these cases. (technically, as by limitation of the particle effects in my game engine of choice, it's impossible to make them truly "flicker", so technically, a gradient IS being used, but I made the switch extremely fast, so you shouldn't be able to notice, so please excuse this, any in-between colors are completely unintentional, and a result of said limitation.)

Incorporation of the theme: Metroidvanias, by nature consist of you gaining items to upgrade your character, so I feel that it satisfies the theme of Upgrade.

Overall am I satisfied with this entry?
Absolutely! I thought I would be scrounging for time due to the more expansive nature of the game, but time didn't turn out to be a real issue at all! I also severely underestimated how small a 84x48 resolution is, so that was probably the most restrictive part of this whole game. I have some experience with 1-bit monochromatic color pallets, so that wasn't a huge issue. Anyways, I'm so happy with the way it turned out, and I hope you enjoy playing it!
