Dying Light developer Techland has announced The Following, its next major expansion for the open-world zombie game, will be available in the first quarter of 2016, which means it will be released somewhere from January to March.

　　In its official statement, the studio said the 2016 release "gives us enough time to put in all the content and surprises we have planned." The statement also indicates a specific date has not yet been settled on, and Techland will share "the exact day of release as soon as we get a final decision."

　　The Following is a story-based expansion in which protagonist Kyle Crane (voiced by Assassin's Creed and Batman voice actor Roger Craig Smith) travels to the outback. While there he meets "mysterious and fanatical cultists" that have information about the zombie outbreak.

　　The expansion also adds vehicles to the game, one of which is a dirt buggy. This is customizable, upgradable, and features its own skill tree. Techland called the dirt buggy Dying Light's "deadliest weapon yet."

　　The Following is included with the $20 Dying Light DLC pass. Those that have not purchased the pass will be able to buy it for $15.

　　Dying Light launched in January 2015 and broke Techland's sales records, outselling Techland's other major zombie title, Dead Island.

　　Dead Island 2 was in development at Spec Ops: The Line studio Yager Development. The project hit a roadblock, however, and the announcement of a split between Yager and Deep Silver was made. Discussing the parting of ways Timo Ullmann, managing director of Yager, said the Dead Island 2 project "fell out of alignment."
