DVD Station today announced it will begin selling and renting video games from its "vendors," which are automated interactive "stations" that are meant to replicate typical video rental stores or retailers. The addition of games also beefs up the company's "recommendation engine," which uses algorithms to pair gaming titles with films akin to them in genre. This is done to help steer consumers toward titles they may be interested in. For example, a customer who rents the violent Al Pacino movie Scarface will be recommended to take a drive on the crime-ridden streets of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, or vice versa. The vending machines/stations, which occupy 25 square feet, are currently in locations such as Sony's Metreon in San Francisco and New York City's Grand Central Station.
